Steam Plant Death Watch


This is a list of steam plants that are on their way out or being reduced in classification. Last update: 2016-05-19.

Steam Plants Completely Shutting Down:

British Columbia:

Burrard Thermal     
(950 MW power plant. Shutting down in about two years; becoming a sync-condensing plant. Insider Source)

UBC Power House (updated 2016-06-03)
Steaming since 1921. Complete shutdown in less than two years and being demolished. Being replaced by a hot-water plant. Half of the plant is decommissioned with two boilers now remaining (of the original four). May be still operating into 2017. (Insider Source)

Neucel Specialty Cellulose

Alberta:

Valley Power in Drayton Valley, AB
Allegedly permanently Shutdown as of September 2016. Allegedly Bankrupt.
Allegedly PPA agreement ran out and cannot afford to run on the going power rates.

Really sucks about burrard thermal....that was my "dream" job when I got into this career! :'(

Valley Power in Drayton Valley, AB, is shutting down on May 25, 2016. 

This is a "temporary" shutdown but some sources believe it is going to finalize as permanent.  C

where did you get the info about the plant in Drayton Valley?  I can't find info about it anywhere.

Plant is shutting down May 25, 2016, for a "temporary" closure. It looks grim.
